… Is your child struggling to fit into a regular classroom?
… Do they have trouble coping with the daily lessons?
…Or maybe they ace the exams but get anxiety attacks during recess and play time?
Well, all this signifies is a breakdown of traditional modes of education and alludes to an immediate need for a more individualized educational plan.
Every child who has some form of autism, learning disability, hearing impairment or an unique physical/mental ability will struggle to go through the motions of a regular schooling system. And contrary to what some may say, the problem lies not with your child but the method of teaching and the type of education that is imparted to them.
They have a special set of abilities which ought to be molded in a right way to bring out their true potential. This is only possible with a one of kind program known as Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is a special program framed collectively by the student, their parents, teachers, and others connected with the educational well being of the child.
It is a legal document that lists out all of the accommodations which are to be provided for the child during the school day. This ensures that the student receives any adaptive services needed for a proper education.
So a child with learning disability will be offered special classes after school, a hearing impaired child will be given lecture notes beforehand to keep up with the class, a child with autism will be allowed to use fidget devices, take "anxiety breaks", protected from stressful situations, etc
Your child can be accommodated to a separate classroom, if you so desire, or allowed to be a part of a regular class with allowance for certain accommodations. Everything depends on the IEP you come up with.
Please note:
IEP is tailored not only for those with autism, or learning disabilities though. It is absolutely necessary for children who have any of thirteen disabilities covered under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This includes emotional/intellectual disability, speech, language or hearing Impairment, traumatic brain injuries, orthopedic impairment among others.
Over the years, we realized that there's a distinct lack of awareness about IEP, and it's workings. We came across numerous cases where students had fallen on the way side because of teething problems with IEPs and the different stakeholders who are involved with it.
...IEP's should be collaborative, but oftentimes relationships breakdown between the school system, providers, and parents.
...This in effect puts the whole educational trajectory of the child in jeopardy. This was the reason Autism Works developed a special project called the "IEP success system".
"Every school my son went to, they kept saying he was a bad fit and he needs to go to a "special school". It was as if all his underlying gifts were ignored due to his behavioral ticks. But thanks to Jody McNamer and his IEP success system, I was able to bring about a fresh perspective into the minda of my son's teachers and educationists. They no longer treated him as a pariah but as someone who just needed a little extra help. Now he goes to regular school and is no different than any one else. "
"I was a proponent of IEP from the very first day, and knew that if my child was to succeed in school, he needed to follow a special program. However, after the first few months, some issue or the other kept cropping up and the whole concept of IEP went for a toss. The teachers were exasperated, I was confused and my son's education just fell on the wayside. That is when I subscribed to Autism Works and their IEP success system. This helped me get a whole perspective on all that I was doing wrong and analyse the cause for the failure of IEP. More importantly, it helped me develop and refine the whole program she rebuild relationships/systems. This made a huge impact in my child's life and he has kept ahead of his class all through the year. I have to thank Autism Works for their wonderful program and would recommend IEP success system to all parents with children having unique abilities."

Hi,
I'm Jody McNamer, an entrepreneur, a real estate broker and most importantly, the father of an unique child with extraordinary abilities. My son, Tyler, was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2, yet he has gone onto become a successful author, motivational speaker and an entrepreneur in his own right. He is also my cofounder in our Autism Works project, an initiative designed to improve the lives of those affected by autism with support, awareness and education.
However, success didn't come easy to him, not in the least with regards to education. When Tyler was diagnosed with autism at a very young age, we never imagined how school would turn into an absolute nightmare for him. He could barely interact with other children and was constantly far behind the class. Worse, he couldn't even sit still in classroom, and all his ticks/habits only led to constant ridicule and bullying.
While the teachers and school administrators were understanding, there was little they could help with. In fact, we as parents were of little help either, due to lack of knowledge and awareness. While we did ponder about taking Tyler away from regular schooling, we were confident about his abilities and felt all he needed was a separate educational program.
That's when we stumbled upon Individual Educational Plan (IEP), and I can say that it has singlehandedly been the key to Tyler's success in school. It laid a foundation for all of the services that he qualified for and created measurable goals. IEP provided him with all the resources needed to tap his unique abilities and succeed in his educational journey.
Whether allowing him to use a fidget device in class, take frequent breaks, or safeguarding him from fire drills and other anxiety inducing situations, IEP helped address all his behavioral difficulties. As for education itself, IEP was instrumental in getting him special services such as a teaching assistant, adaptive assignments which are at a higher cognitive level yet take a shorter amount of time, etc.
However, as we worked on AutismWorks, we found out there has been lack of knowledge around IEPs among the general populace. Even in case where IEPs have been utilized, there were numerous conflicts between parents, teachers and schools , relating to how exactly IEPs ought to be structured and carried out. This has led to a massive breakdown in the proper functioning of IEPs and put the education of thousands of kids at risk.
That is why we decided to work specifically on a program called "IEP Success System" that addressed all these issues and facilitated a collaborative environment that is conducive for the overall betterment of the child.
Our IEP success system is a 11 module intensive program that helps familiarize all the stakeholders with high level of content pertaining to the IEP program. This program helps educate parents and caregivers on how to navigate the IEP process, and imparts the requisite knowledge for a thorough understanding on the workings of IEP such as how to deal with breakdowns, Services available, etc.
With our "IEP success System", you'll get answers to questions such as
Apart from that, examples of Tyler's IEPs utilized for every year he was in school are included to give insights on how everything was designed, the results they produced and the changes we made to suit his changing goals, since the IEP changes each year to match the child's aspirations.
It is my belief that every child has the potential to succeed and all they need is a conducive environment and a little push. I hope our IEP success system can assist your child in some little way. Even if you don't want to subscribe to our training program, please do take a look at Autism Work's collection of videos of IEP, and help spread awareness of this truly extraordinary program.
Thank you.
Regards
Jody McNamer
"I've always had problems with my son's school and their idea of IEP. I felt they just weren't doing enough and that my son deserves so much more. All the negative vibes only spilt over into my child's life and he was struggling more than ever. However, IEP success system came through as a god send to me and helped resolve a whole host of issues. I can't thank the team of Autism Works enough."
