RE: Social Stories

Thanks for taking a minute to download my Social Story.  I created this tool to help your child with autism.

I was diagnosed with autism at age 2, communicating with a series of frustrated noises and physically "acting out".  I formed words at age 6, spoke in full sentences at 12.

My teachers or parents didn't know that I had been called a retard, dumb, and disabled. I've been bullied, picked on, and made fun of simply because I processed information differently.

My mission is to never have that happen to someone with autism again.

It's one of the big reasons that I wrote a book about growing up with autism, started a company that helps people affected by autism, and I now speak across the country to thousands of people each year.

Social Stories were a huge help to me, especially when it came to managing my emotions.

Another important tool was creating a chart of expected -vs- unexpected behavior using pictures.

There is also a great technique called Stop, Look, Listen, Think.  I still use it to this day.  It helps me to take the appropriate action.

I encourage you to learn how I used these tools to transform myself from a non-verbal six year old that hit, bit and head-bunted others to speaking in front of thousands each year.  Changing from a child that ran out of the classroom, ate staples, and regularly "melted down", to being an international best selling author, and owner of AutismWorks.  Buy this program, it contains some of the best first person information you will ever find on the topic of autism and emotions.

"I loved this video! It helps explain why my grandson makes noises that seem out of place. It's like he is trying to communicate with us but can figure how to say the words. I also like how you said that you made sounds but didn't realize others could hear them. I think that is common since it feels like my grandson does the same. "
